It's been a long, hard year for all of us. Covid has kept us at home and we all long to see more of the great outdoors with great car trips in Bedfordshire and beyond when the laws permit us to.
However, things are looking up and, with the Government roadmap now having been revealed we can see a time in the near future where we can all jump in to our cars and enjoy them, and the stunning countryside.
Lockdown rules will change on 29th March where staying at home is no longer mandatory and the law. We are now able to venture further afield, whilst keeping as local as we can.
With that in mind we wanted to come up with some car trips and journeys, local to Storacar, where you can pick up your car and soon be enjoying driving your car - which may have been many months for some of you.
Bedford to Kimbolton
Many of you may be familiar with the delights of Bedford, however being a short pootle from our our long term car storage facilities it is the perfect place to maybe catch some breakfast before your trip.
If you are not in a rush there is always the impressive Bedford Castle to have a wander around before jump in to the car and head out on the B660 towards the countryside.
After only seeing the view from the windows of your home for over a year ANY other view will be greatly appreciated. However the stunning farmland, fields and fresh air will soon invigorate you as cross the many brooks and tributaries of the River Great Ouse.
With a range of views, road surfaces, twists and turns, it's a great little trip to put a smile on your face and some miles on the clock.
As you head through Kimbleton you can also get some good turning in as the main road takes four right angle turns in succession - something the Romans would lose sleep over we would imagine!!
Kimbleton was also home to Catherine of Aragon after her divorce from Henry VIII. Which is better than losing your head we imagine.
Governement guidelines state that, although we are not restricted to our homes, we must try and keep local. So this route is perfect.
For a journey of only 14 miles it is one filled with enough differences to keep you entertained and finding your feet again in your well kept and stored vehicle.
We have all missed the sights, sounds and real thrills of attending events or race meetings but, as you make your way through the countryside it could be quite easy to imagine you are taking the high speed turns and chicanes of Silverstone, Brands Hatch or Monte Carlo!
No more sitting parallel in your comfy chair at home, it's now time to enjoy undulations, double apexes, blind crests, tight turns and adverse cambers sound in the seat of your car.
So, jump in your car, put down the pedal and head off down the A505 near Royston towards Litlington. Then make your way to the B1042 out of Wrestlingworth, head to Potton and then Sandy to join the A1.
Instead of twenty episodes of whatever Netflix series you have been working through to pass the time, take a twenty mile drive for something all together more entertaining.
This B road is an A class road with long slow corners and fast turns to test your road-reading skills. It also has a wide ranges of hills that roll up and downs to get the measure of your car suspension.
And how can we forget the twists and turns, hairpins and chicanes, to blow away the cobwebs you have no doubt accumulating whilst being stuck at home during the pandemic.
Whatever route you decide to take we hope it is the start of many more trips this year and we wish you all the best from the team at Storacar.
